When we first moved to Florida I ran a hotel staff. It was a job that kept me on my feet and moving. After several months the ankle and heel area of each foot tightened up feeling like the muscles were too short to allow my feet to move properly. This was called Post-static dyskinesia. There are many structures attached to the heel bone (calcaneus). The two structures primarily associated with heel pain are the plantar fascia (band of connective tissue along the bottom of the foot that supports the arch) and the flexor digitorum brevis muscle. In walking, the arch starts to flatten as the foot absorbs the weight of the body and these structures maintain the arch and stabilize the foot. Normally, they accomplish this effortlessly. However, when people spend a lot of time on their feet those structures may stretch beyond their limits. This stretching can lead to muscle tears and bone spurs. Post-static dyskinesia causes heel pain early in the morning that subsides as the day goes on. This occurs because the muscles are tight in the morning, accentuating the strain on the flexor muscle and, if present, bone spurs. As the day progresses, the muscles stretch and the pain subsides. Post-static dyskinesia means "pain after rest." I had to stretch my feet and ankle muscles for about twenty minutes before I could even get out of bed each morning. The problem worsened as time went on and sharp bone spurs on my heels prevented me from putting any pressure on them. Bone spurs on the heel occur when muscle tension (usually on the flexor digitorum) pulls a piece of bone away from the calcaneus. A bone spur usually appears on x-ray as a fishhook-shaped structure. This sharp-edged deformity irritates the nerves in the heel and, combined with the strained muscles, causes heel pain. It was extremely painful and debilitating so I ended up walking with a cane. I really needed help. We were in a Sunday night church service where people were being prayed for to receive physical as well as spiritual help. Many preachers are obedient to the Holy Bible and their devotion to Jesus Christ allows the Holy Spirit to give them authority to take the miracle power of God to the people, just as Jesus told the disciples to do in (Mark 16:15-18). It is so marvelous to watch people get miracles and healings from God, knowing that their lives will be changed forever. As I watched, God with his compassionate love reached down and healed my feet and ankles before I could even get in the prayer line. I walked out of church free from Post-static dyskinesia, went home and put my cane away and haven't had to use it since. After that night, for many years, my feet felt like brand new. Nothing I did ever tired them out. I could shop all day and come home and clean house. What a wonderful miracle. Now, twenty-four years later, my feet are still the youngest feeling part of my body. Praise God! My prayer for you is the same as in (Ephesians 3:16-19), that you realize the very depth of God's love for you so you can return that love to Him, his son, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
