Scriptures
“May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. How do you sing?

Q
How do you sing?
A

Singing is one of the most beautiful forms of worship a person can give to the Lord. It can come from a quiet content heart or from a heart of full of tremendous joy. The song the Israelites sang in Exodus 15 when God delivered them from the Egyptians came from the joy in their hearts.

Singing should come from your heart, from your desire to praise God, who created music: Psalm 9:1-2 I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

Songs should be sung to Jesus, our savior. There are many wonderful hymns and modern songs for worshiping our Lord. Christian radio stations have several programs throughout the day that play music. http://www.1000christiancards.com has beautiful music you can listen to.

It is wonderful to sing about the greatness of God as in: Psalm 21:13 Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength; we will sing and praise your might.

There are scriptures that command us to sing: Psalm 30:4 Sing to the Lord, you saints of his; praise his holy name.

Psalm 47:6-7 Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise.

God loves for us to express our feelings to him; it allows him to be close and show compassion for us. James 5:13 Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.

Colossians 3:15-16 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body (the body of Christ) you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

Songs should always be full of the goodness of God and not the meaningless worldly music that so many people listen to today. If you have no control over music that's playing near you, such as when you're in a restaurant or a store, you can make up your own praise words to sing in your heart to the Lord. Ephesians 5:19-20 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In learning the different aspects of the Holy Spirit, at times He will inspire a person to sing in the Spirit. This can be in your own language or a heavenly language praising God. There are times a person will wake up with the joy of singing in the Spirit and realize that their spirit and soul has been singing by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit for hours. 1Corinthians 14:15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.

It doesn't matter what situations you endure in life a born again Christian can have joy and sing because God knows everything about your situation and is always there to help in a time of need. Proverbs 29:6 An evil man is snared by his own sin, but a righteous one can sing and be glad.

You, as a spirit being, have authority over your soul. David knew it was good to command his soul to be filled with praises for God. Psalm 146:1-2 Praise the Lord, O my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

We are to sing and be thankful for everything that God does for us. Psalm 147:7-11 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make music to our God on the harp. He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills. He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call. His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of a man; the Lord delights in those who fear him, (revere and honor Him) who put their hope in his unfailing love.

Singing to God is a way of returning our love to him for the great love He shows us everyday. Knowing how to sing is such an important part of a person's relationship with God and Jesus. Singing softens the heart of a person so that the good things of God, like love, peace, joy and the ability to worship, can drop in and stay. It opens the door for the Holy Spirit to teach us and give us understanding when we read the Bible.

Godly music comforts us when we are sad and expresses our joy when we are glad. God loves expressive people and music from your heart will always get the attention of God to move and give you favor.

Music should never replace reading the Bible. It takes the truths that are written in the word of God to bring a person into the maturity of God's knowledge and the wisdom of how to use it.

When you sing during life's hardships and trials, it directly affects how God moves for you and those around you. Acts 16:25-30 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose. The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted, "Don't harm yourself! We are all here!" The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

Continually singing songs of worship to the Lord is like building a hedge around yourself. It keeps the attacks of Satan at a distance. He has trouble getting through to affect you in any way. When you sing praise to the Lord, you receive strength from God. It makes a tight knit relationship between you, here on earth, and the throne of heaven.

Singing and worshipping are acts of a tender heart towards God. This is what he really created us for and he greatly rewards anyone who develops a tender heart toward Him and his Son. For some people learning to sing is not easy; they feel their voice isn't right, they don't know the words or the tune. God isn't interested in any of those things. He's interested in you. Begin with whatever you know to do and allow the Holy Spirit lead you into this area of intimate relationship with God. Try to sing everyday; it's a vital part of a Christian's walk with the Lord.

Why would teaching us to love God, neighbors and the world be helpful to prepare leaders

Q

You asked, "Why would teaching us to love God, neighbors and the world be helpful to prepare leaders?"

A

When godly teachings are instilled in a person's mind and heart then the Lord, with His great knowledge, can use that person to do the right things in his or her life that will bring great blessings, physically, mentally, and materially. Those blessing, or good events, can extend beyond that person into the lives of others. Since God is the only one who knows what's in the future, even the short future such as an hour or a day, then to be close to God has great advantage.

I have been a Christian over 30 years and there are numerous times in my life I can look back and see where I made the right choice. I'm talking about the choices that I know wasn't in my nature to make; but believe it was the Spirit of the Lord leading me. This type of leading can be for every person on earth, not just leaders, although it is more important for leaders because their decisions affect so many people.

God wants every person to receive His son.

God loves every person in the whole world; however He doesn't like some of the actions they produce and does not approve of the sin that is in their lives. He wants all people to have a good life, to be blessed abundantly and be free from the influence of Satan's evil ways.

2Peter 3: 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance .

When a person repents of their sins and accepts Jesus (God's son) as their savior then that act moves them into the family of God and makes them eligible to receive all the benefits that The New Testament covenant promises them.

Psalm 103:2-5 Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits--who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

You have to know His benefits before you can receive them and the only way to know them is to study the Bible, pray, ask for guidance and be obedient to His Word.

Why read the Bible

2Peter 1: 20-21 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Bible was written by the inspiration of God through men that lived holy to please the Lord. That makes it a written contract (covenant) between God and those who accept it. The Bible is God's loving way to help us know right from wrong and the benefits of acting accordingly. It shows us His personality and tells us what He likes and doesn't like. Then when we act upon His word in doing what He wants, the Holy Spirit moves in close to help us accomplish His will in our lives. God is so interested in us that He has answers for everything we need, for any situation, in the Bible. This is something that no other religion does. God opens up the knowledge of how and why he created us. He gives us word pictures of what the world was like when He created it and what it will be like at the end of time. We get a glimpse of earth in eternity when the great city of heaven, The New Jerusalem, comes down to rest here and we are free to go in and out and walk the streets of gold with Him. Unfortunately, there are also sections for those who don't love God nor accept His Son, Jesus.

The Bible is a living book. By that I mean it is God's "spoken word". It works the same as when He spoke the world into existence and created the sun, moon and stars; when a person reads His word it will change the heart of that person who is reading it. The more they believe the more God moves for them. It's a loving relationship between God and each individual person that accepts His Son as their savior. That relationship is controlled by how much time and effort a person puts into it. God is always ready to listen to us; His greatest desire is talk to his people.

I think Paul gave us the best advice when he wrote:
Romans 12:1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Believing what we read in the Bible allows a person's heart to grow in love for God as well as for others in the world. Love for one anther creates understanding and compassion between people, which in turn produces a true unselfish peace; the very thing the people of the world claim to want.

God's word says it best about leaders of governments:
Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan.
