Scriptures
“But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”
—Luke 6:35-36

Lust, What Does God Say About It?   Print
Written by Cherie

any people do not know how to give godly love. Godly love is full of truth with a commitment to give of them-selves only with the hope that love will be returned. Without godly love you have a distorted form of love called lust. It's an abnormal desire with an appetite to gratify the senses of the sinful nature that all humans were born with. Adam was created with a godly nature but chose to exchange it for a sinful nature when he disobeyed God and ate the forbidden fruit. Satan searches for areas of a person's life that is not controlled by the boundaries that God has set in His Bible, such as money, power, extreme playfulness, which is folly etc. Sexual desire is another area where Satan has pushed human-beings into extreme distortion to the point it has destroyed thousands of families and the lives of everyone that was close to that person.

God wants us to have an abundance of all good things in our lives but Satan distorts the good things and pushes us to live life his way. He has a list of lies and distortions that has thousands of entries but God's list of how we should live to be free and whole is in the Bible. Satan continually works hard to find our weaknesses in our life or personality to enter in and take control. He will even try to make one himself by instilling imaginations that creates a distortion or perverse abnormal desire in the human mind that go beyond the limits that God created for mankind to enjoy. When a person allows these ungodly imaginations to flourish their desires and craving soon become uncontrollable and have allowed themselves to be taken over by demonic power.

Ephesians 6:10-12 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. (The spiritual aspect behind our earthly problems comes from satanic forces.) The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world (carnal, physical, mental, emotional or educational) On the contrary, they (our spiritual weapons) have divine power (with godly strength, knowledge and wisdom) to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension (imaginations) that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Lust can focus on many different area of a person's desires, but the most damaging is sexual lust because it can totally destroy that person, mind, soul and body; plus it has devastating effects on everyone around them. Lust puts Satan in control over a person's life as well as their eternity.

Lust is not love in any sense of the word. Love is giving to another in spite of how you feel; lust is taking from someone or using another person, with no commitment. It's the highest form of selfishness, always wanting to satisfy one's own desires.

When a person's ability to love is based on emotions instead of God's Word it's easy for Satan to twist that love into lust. He will twist until there isn't an ounce of decent love left. There is no love in lust because a mind full of lust has no room for purity of any kind. That's why a cheating spouse can walk away from children, homes that they worked so hard for and anything else that may get in their way. Love is a commitment to someone. Lust has no commitment, because there is no love.

A person who lusts continually looks for someone to fulfill their requirements. Many time they will define their search for someone who fits their criteria such as in looks, pretty or handsome, smart, rich, popular, etc. Lust is a relationship of: how can you please me; what can you give me or do for me. It's a one-sided relationship on their terms where the person with lustful spirits is always in control.

As lust grows in a person they become non committal. They regulate the limits of their relationships eliminating important priorities and responsibilities; coming, going, doing as they please without consideration for anyone else. Lust separates them from the people who love them the most. All this gives them a false sense of freedom and self-esteem, which is many times expressed in boastfulness. Although the relationship can last for many years, it never becomes a trusting, deep fulfilling bond because the foundation is based on the lies that Satan has fed them.

Here are some scriptures and a link to another article that may help you to understand lust and how it work to snare a person into committing sin.

Matthew 5:28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Ephesians 4:19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.

Colossians 3:5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

1 Thessalonians 3-5 It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God;

1 Peter 4:3 For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do, living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.

1 John 2:16 For everything in the world, the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does, comes not from the Father but from the world.

2 Peter 2:17-19 These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity, for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.

Romans 1:26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. How does lust move into a person taking over so completely? (Read: Lust and God's Wrath Against Mankind)

If you have been tormented by lustful spirits of any kind it's demonic power putting thoughts in your mind. Satan wants to capture people today just as he did in Sodom and Gomorrah. Even if you have participated in homosexual acts and even if it's been for years, God still loves you. It the sin he hates. You can get rid of all demonic bondage and have peace again. God has deliverance for your freedom through his Son, Jesus. Please go to our salvation prayer page and repent of any sinful thoughts or acts you may have had in your life. When you repent and give your heart to Jesus he'll wash all your sins away. You will become a new free person in your heart. You can start fresh and new, no longer chained to the bondage that has held you captive. Then the Holy Spirit will be present to strengthen you daily, as you read and grow in God's wonderful word.
