cts 1: 1-5In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
Notice Jesus is talking to believers, those who have already been through water baptism, telling then to wait for another promise from God. There are many scriptures instructing born again believers to receive this commandment from Christ, the baptism (or fullness) of the Holy Spirit. Most Christians haven't been taught to seek scriptural or spiritual help to receive this second wonderful experience from God. The Holy Spirit is our teacher and to refuse to receive Him limits our abilities, victories and blessings. We as earthly people must have God's spiritual power to effectively use the scriptures to do battle against Satan's powers of deceit and lies. Jesus received the Holy Spirit fullness at the time of His water baptism (at that time it had not yet been poured out to earth.) It was not His time of salvation. He had known God since He was a child. The Holy Spirit gave him power for service, teaching, healing and doing all that God wanted.
To receive the Holy Spirit we are to tarry in His presence after receiving salvation, worshiping with praise and believing for the promised gift, until we receive and He can inspire us with God's language. The Holy Spirit does not come into us with His fullness when we receive salvation as many denominations teach. When the Holy Spirit comes to live inside us we will receive just as they did in the Book of Acts, with the evidence of speaking in tongues. He will give us the heavenly words to speak that will glorify God. God has not changed his way for us to receive His Spirit just as he has never changed that it takes repentance and receiving Jesus as Lord of our lives to be saved. If we want the promises of God working in our lives we must conform to His ways and not adjust the scriptures to fit our way of thinking and doing. There are millions of people around the world who have now received this precious gift from God. Receive all that God desires for you to have and enjoy His freedom. Never have fear of speaking what the Holy Spirit is giving you. He loves you, He is the part of God that fulfills His work. We are God's main priority so you are safe in His presence seeking the things of God. |
