There is a Place You Can Stand   Print
Written by Howard

n the fast paced world we live in everyone is traveling at the speed of light; or so it seems. We race from place to place and never seem to get there soon enough.

There's not enough time for our kids or our wives or our husbands. Relatives are seldom seen and close friends are hard to cultivate. Everyone is trying to carve out their own niche and find some meaning to the maddening pace of life.

It's a world where people of different religions are fighting and killing each other and teaching their children to kill other innocent human beings. It's a world where famine plagues many countries and adults and children alike are dying of starvation and disease.

Is there an answer to all we face and all the questions that people are confronted with daily? The enormity of the issues leave us thinking "How can we know the answer, when we aren't even sure what are the right questions to ask?" Is there a place where we can stand and will that stand be right for today and still be right for tomorrow?

If there is a God, can he be relevant for the issues of our personal lives and bring some sense of understanding to the chaos of this human dilemma?

We try to come up with our own answers by looking inward or we can consult the myriad of advisers that are eager to share their vast knowledge, whether good or bad.

We are not without hope. We do not have to wander through life without having a charted course to follow.

There is a place where you can stand.

In a very old book, there is the account of a man who found that place to stand. In Exodus 33:21, God said to Moses, "There is a place near me where you can stand on a rock."

How can a mere man have an audience with the Almighty God and be given this kind of invitation?.

Moses had asked God to show him his glory. God responded by saying that no man could see his face and live but that he would put Moses in the cleft of a rock (a place where he could stand) and God would pass by and allow Moses to see just a part of him.

What a sight that must have been. The eternal God that Moses had sought so hard to know was now revealing himself, in all his goodness and glory, and had made a place for this man to stand and meet with him.

This is the same Moses that had been born to Levite parents and had been hidden in a basket on the Nile river to prevent his death. Pharaoh had ordered that all male children be killed at birth to curb the growth of the Jewish people.

Pharaoh's daughter rescued Moses from the Nile and had raised him as her own child. When he grew up he tried to help his own people but his methods were not from God and he had to flee Egypt to save his life.

Forty years passed and Moses was tending sheep on the far side of the desert in a land called Midian. He had heard all the stories about the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob but this God was still unknown to him. When he came to mount Horeb the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush.

Moses was called on a mission that would take him back to Egypt to be God's chosen vessel to bring deliverance to his own people. This deliverance from Pharaoh would only happen after God had sent all the plagues of judgment and revealed his power.

Moses would lead all the people out of bondage and again come to the mountain of God to receive the law in the form of the ten commandments.

Throughout his life, he was the leader that had seen God and talked to him face to face as a man talks to another man. He had not only found a place to stand but had found "the place to stand." His life and his mission was unparalleled by anyone in history but it pointed forward to yet another deliverer who was to come.

Deuteronomy 18:15 says, "The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him."

John 1:17 says, "For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ."

God had given the Law to make people aware of their sins and show them their need for a savior. Jesus was the fulfillment of the Law. He would come as the "lamb of God" that would take away the sins of the whole world.

John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

This is the one that was sent from heaven to show us the way back to God. God told Moses that there's a place near me where you can stand on a rock. Jesus is that rock and not only do we have a place to stand on a rock, but we have a place where we can stand "in the rock".

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my words and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." (John 5:24)

Wouldn't you like a place to stand that is not only near God, but that is in God? When we turn from the weakness of ourselves to the strength of God, we are saying yes to all that God has prepared for us. When we dare to open the door of our hearts to him, we are like the camera whose film is void and dark but that was created to be exposed to light. Our spirits were created by God himself to be a place where he would live in us and we would live in him.

In a world that seems to have no absolutes, wouldn't it be nice to know why we are here and what is our purpose in life. There is a place where you can stand on a rock. That rock is Christ. He was sent to bring us back into a relationship with our heavenly father.

John 1:12 says ,"To all that received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God".

2 Corinthians 5:17 states, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" Here is the place God has prepared for you and me to stand and have the life that he has promised. In Christ. In God himself. In the family that God had planned from the beginning. In all that he has planned for our future.

The father has done all that is needed. The son has paid the total price to bring us back to God. Here is a place where you can stand.
