Fear, Where It Comes From And How To Get Rid Of It   Print
Written by Cherie
ear can show up in many different areas of a person's life. It can be as mild as a simple thought that leads a person to consider changing their feelings about something, or it can grip the heart of a person until it paralyzes them, causing them to be mentally and emotionally imprisoned. Fear is one of the primary tools that Satan has used since the beginning to instill false beliefs into the human mind. If we took inventory of the different types of fear, they would number in the thousands.

Satan knows that if he can put a speck of fear in a person's mind and they accept it, he can increase it until the person is completely in his control. Many times Satan places fear in a person for something that God intended to be a blessing. As a result, they end up missing their blessing because they didn't have knowledge and wisdom to put fear out of their mind. It's part of Satan's arsenal of tricks, lies, and deceit to rob people and keep them from receiving the good things that God intends for them to enjoy.

Destructive fear is something that every person should learn to rid themselves of before it takes control. Now there is a good fear that God put in a person for teaching purposes. There is fear that makes a person look for cars before they cross the street. A fear that causes a person to be careful or safe, a common sense type of fear; for example. When we touch our hand on the burner of a stove we learn to fear a hot surface. This is good fear and keeps us from injuring ourselves. When God made us he included a way for us to receive danger signals and learn to protect ourselves.

Satan twists that fear to include things that God never intended us to fear like accidents, loss or decrease of things in our life, sickness, disease and even death. If he can get us to fear something, then he can move into our life in that area and take control. That's why it's important to know what God's word says. Then by standing strong on His truth Satan can't move in and take over.

The use of God's Word pushes Satan and his ideas out of our mind, making him weak; defeating his schemes. When we resist Satan's efforts he has no choice but to flee. James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

God doesn't use fear to rule people. He uses love to draw people into his greatness so he can improve their lives. The authority He has as "God, the creator of all good things" should be enough for everyone to choose him and his ways. When the Bible says "Fear the Lord" it means to revere Him, to give him honor, praise and thanksgiving. When we study the Bible with a humble and prayerful attitude we receive insight into God's meaning for the scriptures, wisdom to obey and the strength to do what the Word says. He does not expect us to do what he wants all by ourselves. He knows our weaknesses. It's God's supernatural system that keeps our conscience clear and every person has access to it. It's not easy to find time daily to read the Bible and spend time with the Lord, but if we persevere God will reward us generously. When we practice doing the things of everyday life in a manner pleasing to the Lord, it prepares us for major events ahead, good or bad. The Word gives us the power to stop Satan's access to our minds, eliminating temptation and torment. It's the only way of successfully eliminating all fear.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (learning God's Word).  Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

God has a perfect will for every person on earth. One that will bless them bringing continual increase and joy to their life. He leaves it up to us to choose if we want to receive it or not.

Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Who better knows what will please us than God? His plans are supernatural. Even when he uses another person to bless us it's the Holy Spirit that inspires them.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (The King James Version says: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together and running over, shall men give into your bosom.) God has a covenant with his people through salvation in Jesus Christ. We have the ability to grow using God's faith, which we receive from his word, and enjoy all of his promises.

3John 1:2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. A person's soul prospers when the Word of God drops into it, then that truth becomes part of them. It then comes out in their speech and actions as a reflection of God's righteousness. It's what's in the soul that brings prosperity to a person's life.

Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. What are the riches in Christ Jesus? Everything good on this earth from defeating Satan of everything he tries to hinder us with to supplying us all of our need and fulfilling our desires. (Psalms 37:4 Also: Psalms 20:4 & 21:1-2)

Is there a limit to the riches that God can bless us with? No because He put everything under the power and authority of Jesus; everything good as well as Satan is under Him. Jesus stripped Satan of all his power when he was crucified and then resurrected. We just have to learn to apply our salvation to Satan's evil works and we will defeat him also.

Hebrews 2:6-8 ..."What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor and put everything under his feet." In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him.

Everything good belongs to God and he gave it to his son to bless us with. There is no blessing in fear. The first thing Adam and Eve felt once they sinned was fear. Genesis 3:10 He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid." At the time he created Adam and Eve He gave each of us a free will to choose right or wrong. Unlike Satan, God never forces his will upon us. Therefore, we must seek the Lord through our relationship with Jesus and His Holy Word to receive the knowledge and wisdom that leads to God's perfect will for our life.

God never uses fear tactics on people it wouldn't produce the righteousness that he desires us to have. Instead He gives us love in measures that overflows to others and the knowledge of his word provides understanding for everything we need. He puts His wisdom in our hearts that we can effectively use his word and provides guidance through the Holy Spirit's to help us do everything the right way. He's not a God that uses fear. He uses love, giving us righteousness and life to replace Satan's hold, which is sin and death. Knowing God's truth sets us free. John 8:31-32 ...Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

There's no fear in truth. God has no anger for those who want to live his way. There will be a time when the earth will see a vengeful, angry God but not now. Not till after Jesus comes for his church, and not completely until after the one-thousand-year reign of Christ on earth. (1Thessalonians 4:17)

God is love and the people of this earth who love him and live in covenant with him are holding back the wrath of God in order to reach souls for his kingdom. He is not a God that has to uses fear even for correcting us. He corrects in ways that give us insight to what we do wrong and then gives us opportunity to repent of those wrongs and choose his righteousness.

1John 4:16-18 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the Day of Judgment, because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
